Beauties!

July 5th, 2008

Our pottery is in! They turned out great :) You must take a visit to Ceramics in the City if you’re in need of a rainy afternoon activity, creative release, or just simply in need of something pretty for your house! It’s so much fun and highly relaxing.

June 29th, 2008

James is FINALLY back from Barcelona. Yippeeee! I’m not gonna lie, I’m flippin’ stoked. And, I didn’t kill a single plant when he was away!! They are ALL flourishing. My thumb is definitely a greener shade of it’s previously solid brown.

So, what did we do on his first weekend back?

Friday night… I picked him up from the airport and then we went to Steubens. It’s the perfect first-meal-back-from-Europe meal. It’s kind of become a tradition.

Saturday… we relaxed, relaxed, and relaxed some more… at home. It was grand. We ended the evening with cocktails on the balcony, followed by Rainman - I looove that movie.

Today… we bought a BBQ and a Bocce Ball set! We cooked up a killer first dinner on the grill and then went to the park for an intense game of Bocce Ball. I won’t say who won, but I WILL say that I have innate talent.

Overall, pretty great weekend. Summer is officially in full swing here at the Can-Dahl’s!

James assembling the BBQ - he did a fantastic job (he only cried once!).

The finished product (couscous not shown). Grilled veggies and tofu, first marinated for 2 hours in teriyake deliciousness. YUM! I think we’ll be grilling a lot this summer, and forever.

And, the Bocce Ball competition of the summer officially began. I’m up one :)

1 James Sheep, 2 James Sheep, 3 James….

June 23rd, 2008

I haven’t been able to sleep well for the past few nights, hence the blog post at 11:03pm from my bed. Um, anyways, my sleeplessness reminded me that during James’ first week in Barcelona, he was having trouble sleeping. So I told him to count sheep and picture my head on the sheep. The next morning he awoke to this beauty in his inbox… I’m pretty sure it did the job :)

So now I am thinking that I need one with James’ cute face on some fuzzy sheep bops, and then I will fall asleep.

4 MORE DAYS, 33 MINUTES

June 23rd, 2008

Ugh… so close, yet it feels so far.  James comes home on Friday - Yay!  I am done. with. this.  Hats off to all my ladies who did this for several years… mad props - don’t know how you did it.

Many thanks to Skype - what a life saver!

Off to watch the last of the reality shows I am embarrassed to admit I’ve been watching while he’s been gone :)

Happy Birthday, Laura!

Tomatoes Anyone?

June 22nd, 2008

They’re growing like crazy! Everyday I pick another handful. What can I make with 8 billions tomatoes - anyone?? And Caprese Salad is an unacceptable answer as I’ve already eaten my weight in it :) I Need some new ideas por favor!! Oh FYI, in case this impacts your recipe recommendation - these are sweet Cherry Tomatoes. So, while you’re pondering recipe ideas (you are, right?)…

Business idea! Maybe I should harvest some of our herbs and then start a mini farmers market out of Casa de Can-dahl… I bet we would have participation from our neighbors! We would just need one of the neighbors to start growing some corn or something. How sweet would it be if you could wonder to your neighbor for fresh-grown-goods.

If this thing continues to grow, we might have a Christmas tree come December.

And, it officially begins…

June 21st, 2008

To kick off all the wedding festivities, I hosted my bridal luncheon this evening… it was slightly untraditional in the sense that it was, well, a dinner instead of a luncheon, it was 4 months before the wedding, and I invited “the moms” - my mom and James’ mom because I consider them part of the wedding party :). It was a fun-filled evening of honoring the ladies for being a part of my life and being a part of the wedding - I couldn’t ask for a better bunch.

The evening was held at Ceramics in the City, in the Uptown area of Denver, where we ate delicious Pasquini’s, drank some vino , and painted pottery. It was a bast, and hilarious at times…. see picture below of my mom plunging the toilet… Lydia (girl working the place while we were there), couldn’t get a TP clog undone… so Mz. Roto-Rooter stepped in!

And, here is the group getting ready to paint some master pieces. From left: me, Laura, Molly, Nesso, Mom, and Linda.

Ceramics in the City is such a cute place for little gatherings! They are very accomodating - you can bring in food and drinks, and they are so sweet when it comes to special occasions - they did the balloons on the table (cute!) and they made me a special congratulations plate for all the girls to sign - so fun!

Anyhoo, all of our pieces will be glazed this week and then I pick them up on Friday - can’t wait to see them!

Hope you’re all having a good weekend…
